General information about clinical research and working with GCRP. Study-specific documents control when they differ from this overview.
What is a clinical research study?+
A clinical research study follows a defined study plan to answer questions about health, illness, treatments, or care. Study design, procedures, risks, eligibility, and oversight differ by study.
Does expressing interest mean I am eligible?+
No. Expressing interest is only a first step. Eligibility depends on the study’s inclusion and exclusion criteria and the research team’s review of information required by the protocol.
Will I benefit from participating?+
A personal benefit cannot be promised. Participants may benefit, receive no benefit, or experience risks. Before enrollment, the informed-consent process should address reasonably foreseeable risks, potential benefits, appropriate alternatives, and other information needed to make an informed decision.
Will I be compensated for participating in a trial?+
Some studies compensate participants for their time, effort, inconvenience, or study-related expenses such as travel. Compensation is not guaranteed and varies by study. If a study offers payment, the amount, schedule, requirements, and what happens if participation ends early will be explained before enrollment in the study’s approved consent materials. Eligibility and participation should always be based on complete and truthful health information.
Can I leave a study?+
Participation is voluntary, and a participant may discontinue participation without penalty or loss of benefits to which the participant is otherwise entitled. The study team may discuss safe discontinuation procedures. For FDA-regulated research, data already collected generally remain part of the study record.
Are any studies currently enrolling?+
No active opportunities are presently published on this website. GCRP will publish only approved study listings and their current recruitment status on the Current Studies page.
Is this website for urgent medical help?+
No. GCRP does not provide emergency medical care through this website or its inquiry forms. For an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
